Black Butte is an extinct volcano jutting more than 3,000 feet above the desert floor of Central Oregon. Hikers who summit Black Butte are rewarded with an astonishing view of the Cascade Mountain Range, including Three Fingered Jack and Mt. Jefferson.
When you go, take a moment to enjoy the view from one of the butte's fire lookout stations. But don't forget to pack a high-protein snack that will fuel you up for the trip back down.
