The Adventure Continues: Part 2 of the Elevated Trail Squad Road Trip

July 21, 2022

Leg 2: Hollow Mountain to Monument Valley, Arizona

Part two of the Elevated Trail Squad's spring road trip picks up right where part one left off: in Hollow Mountain, Utah. After refueling with a few bags of beef jerky, the gang headed south towards a destination just off U.S. Route 163.

Valley of the Gods

You may recognize the Valley of the Gods from its distinct reddish-brown rock formations that have appeared in Hollywood westerns and other famous movies since the invention of motion pictures. Visitors can tour these jaw-dropping formations from a 17-mile dirt road winding through the area.

Forrest Gump Point

This desolate stretch of road became famous after its appearance in the classic 1994 film  Forrest Gump as the spot where Forrest ends his three years, two months, 14 days, and 16-hour cross-country run. Nate took this opportunity to hop out of the car for a quick snack and an even quicker snapshot.

Monument Valley, Arizona

Leg two ended with the team crossing the border into Monument Valley, Arizona — a part of the Navajo Nation Reservation. Like its cousin to the north, Monument Valley features striking sandstone buttes and distinctive red earth made famous by countless classic westerns. Today, the area is home to more than 173,000 Navajo Nation members.

Leg 2 Miles Covered: 170

Beef Jerky Consumed: Unmeasurable

The Journey Continues

Stay tuned for the final leg of this epic western road trip taking the Elevated Trail Squad from Monument Valley, Arizona, back home to California.
